November in Luxembourg: 10 things worth leaving the house for (and how to get there for free)
November is the month Luxembourg stops pretending it’s autumn and starts getting ready for Christmas. The calendar fills up quickly. Here is what is on, commune by commune, and what you need to know before you go.
Getting there costs nothing
Public transport is free across the whole country, so the train or bus is usually the easiest option, especially for the Christmas markets in the capital.
The big one: Winterlights in Luxembourg City (20 November to 3 January)
Four markets open together: Place d’Armes, Place de la Constitution (with the big wheel), Place de Paris and Kinnekswiss (with the ice rink). Walking in is free, but the wheel, rink and rides cost extra. Opening hours were 11:00 to 21:00 last year, until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and the city has not yet confirmed the 2026 hours.
Concerts and culture
- Esch-sur-Alzette: Caravan Palace at the Rockhal (6 Nov) and the theatre piece “Genuch ze dinn” at the Kulturfabrik (10, 13 and 14 Nov).
- Echternach: The Trifolion has a full month, including Martin Kohlstedt (17 Nov) and the Echter’World Festival (19-21 Nov), with Ana Moura and Fatoumata Diawara.
- Mondorf-les-Bains: Casino 2000 hosts I Muvrini (15 Nov) and Coeur de Pirate (28 Nov).
- Luxembourg City: The opera “Iphigénie en Tauride” is at the Grand Théâtre (29 Nov), and the national team plays Estonia (13 Nov).
Small-town Christmas, one day at a time
Many communes hold one-day markets in the last week of November:
- Mondorf-les-Bains: 27 November from 16:00.
- Schieren: Wantermaart on 27 November.
- Vianden: Veiner Krëschtmoart on 28 November from 14:00 to 19:00, with a Santa visit and a concert in front of the illuminated castle.
- Grevenmacher: An Advent sale on 28-29 November.
Good to know
- All Saints (1 November) is a public holiday, and the school holidays run from 31 October to 8 November.
- Check the opening times if you’re going on a weekday, because the small markets mostly open in the afternoon or evening.
- Parking in the capital is tight on Winterlights weekends. The Park & Ride sites with tram access are the easiest option.
